Alexander Isak ‘to suffer’ after sensational Liverpool transfer
Alexander Isak could potentially suffer at Liverpool if he completes a sensational transfer from Newcastle United.
The Reds have been linked with the Sweden international ahead of the upcoming transfer window as they look to bolster their forward line.
Mohamed Salah is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season, and Darwin Nunez has failed to convince many since his move from Benfica.
Isak could reinforce Arne Slot’s squad in the coming months, but doubts have been raised around the 25-year-old’s suitability at the Merseyside outfit.

Salah to hinder Isak at Liverpool
Salah’s presence could hinder Isak if he were to sign for the Reds next summer, Stan Collymore says.
The former English striker believes the Egyptian star would be the main man at Anfield if he stays beyond this season, which could drastically affect the Newcastle ace.
Collymore doesn’t want to see the two forwards being paired at the Merseyside outfit and feels the Swedish national will stay at the Magpies for another season.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 28 | 25 | 17 |
Champions League | 8 | 3 | 4 |
Carabao Cup | 4 | 2 | 1 |
The 54-year-old wrote on CaughtOffside (7 March): “Isak would be a sensational fit for Liverpool, as they do not have a proper clinical striker. However, there is an argument that he would not fit in as well as other places because he would not be the main man in terms of goalscoring — that would still be Salah.
“He could easily suffer if he moved to Anfield because of this. In a football team, there is typically one dominant goalscorer, and a couple of others weigh in too, but Isak would not want to be the latter.
“I don’t think you get two players that can score 30–35 goals a season if Isak and Salah are paired together. Football does not work like that, and if Isak sees himself as playing second fiddle, he could have doubts.
“Regardless, I think he stays at Newcastle for at least one more season if they qualify for the Champions League come May, especially as he is already loved there, and he has players around him that get the best out of him.”

Slot would relish Isak and Salah partnership at Anfield
Isak would undoubtedly strengthen Slot’s team after what he has done at Newcastle over the last few years.
The 25-year-old has been influential at the Tyneside outfit, consistently finding the back of the net under Eddie Howe.
With Diogo Jota’s injury issues at Anfield and Nunez’s lack of impact over the years, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them leave soon.
Slot has exceeded expectations at the Reds this season, having signed just one player in the previous two transfer windows.
The Merseyside outfit look set to win the Premier League and beat Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the round of 16 in the Champions League.
While the Dutch manager has done a commendable job, he can’t be expected to sustain the success without being backed next summer.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) will need to put their hands in their pocket and strengthen the team, which Isak’s arrival will certainly do.
Salah may hinder the Sweden international’s progress at the Reds if they’re paired up, but first, it remains to be seen whether the 32-year-old will extend his contract.
