Alexander Isak transfer: Odds tumble on Liverpool move after Newcastle development

Liverpool appear to have received a boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak amid a new development.

Isak has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, with Arne Slot looking to upgrade his attacking options.

The Swedish star has notched 19 goals and five assists in 24 Premier League matches and is said to be keen on joining the Reds.

A new update may give supporters increased hope that a move will happen in the summer.

The Magpies star could be a step closer to joining Liverpool, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds, after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup.

The 25-year-old has been shortened to 3/1 with Bet365 to link up with Slot in the summer transfer window after Newcastle’s 2-1 loss to Brighton on Sunday (2 March).

However, he is 8/13 to remain with Eddie Howe’s side, so it remains to be seen whether the Reds’ interest materialises into a transfer.

Darwin Nunez is expected to leave if a move for Isak is sanctioned by the L4 outfit once the transfer window reopens.

The Uruguayan star was linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia in the winter transfer window and they are set to reignite their interest in the offseason, with Slot frustrated about his lack of goals and workrate.

The misfiring forward has endured a tough time in his Anfield career and a move may be beneficial for both parties. It would allow the Reds to upgrade and the player to potentially find his best form again, without the pressure of playing for a top side.

Supporters will be keen to replace the former Benfica ace as he is currently the club’s record signing, despite his abysmal goal return and the fact that the Swede is a much better option to lead the line.

The pursuit of the Magpies ace makes even more sense with the uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s future. If the Egyptian ace leaves at the end of his contract, the Merseysiders need a new superstar to carry the burden.

Fans will get another glimpse of their potential summer recruit when the sides face off in the Carabao Cup final on 16 March), assuming he is fit enough to feature after going off injured against the Seagulls.
