Liverpool v Southampton preview: Team news, prediction, betting odds

Liverpool are gearing themselves up to take on Southampton in their next Premier League clash on Saturday.

The Reds will be looking to extend their unbeaten run across all competitions to seven and add yet another three points to their tally.

The Saints have been the Premier League’s worst team this season, with Ivan Juric’s men only having nine points to their name at the moment.

Preview

The 2024/25 season has been one to remember for the Merseyside outfit, with Liverpool dominating most of the opponents they’ve faced.

Whether that be in the Premier League or the Champions League, Liverpool have more often than not come out on top.

At the moment, there’s a 13-point gap between themselves and second-placed Arsenal which doesn’t look like it’s going down any time soon.

Although their 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday could’ve been a far more convincing performance, Slot’s men still managed to push through and get the victory.

Meanwhile, Southampton have been the polar opposite of the Reds as they’ve struggled massively, no matter who they face.

They’ve already sacked their manager and brought Juric in but that’s still led to them having only nine points to their name.

And, to be quite frank, it’s hard to see where their next win is going to come from.

Team News

Slot will be without Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley for their Premier League clash against the Saints.

Gomez has recently undergone surgery for a hamstring injury so likely won’t be back in action until closer to the end of the season.

Bradley has suffered an injury to his thigh which is why Trent Alexander-Arnold has been Liverpool’s first-choice right-back over their last couple of games.

Last but not least, Cody Gakpo missed out on the tie against PSG on Wednesday with Slot saying that the Dutchman was “close to being ready” but didn’t quite make it. However, that could change against Southampton.

Juric’s team also have a few injuries to contend with as Ryan Fraser, Ross Stewart, Juan Larios and James Bree are all set to miss out on the clash.

Adam Lallana and Jan Bednarek could, however, make their returns to the first team while Lesley Ugochukwu should also be available.

Predicted line-ups for Liverpool and Southampton

Liverpool: Allison, Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Elliott, Mac Allister, Salah, Jones, Diaz, Nunez.

Southampton: Ramsdale, Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bella-Kotchap, Aribo, Manning, Fernandes, Downes, Smallbone, Kamaldeen, Onuachu.

Prediction: Liverpool 3 – 0 Southampton

With the form that Liverpool are in at the moment, they should easily have enough firepower to overcome Southampton on Saturday.

While Slot may choose to rest some of his star players to give them a rest ahead of their second-leg tie against PSG on 11 March, players such as Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones should be able to pick up the slack in what will be a comfortable home win.
