Ally McCoist rages at what he saw in Liverpool v PSG, ‘criminal’

Ally McCoist was left fuming during what was a dire first half display from Liverpool away to PSG.

The Reds went into their first leg round of 16 clash against the Ligue 1 champions hoping for a positive result to take back to Anfield.

It is safe to say that Arne Slot didn’t get the sort of performance he would have expected as the home outfit looked far better side, despite Harvey Elliott grabbing an astounding late winner.

One particular moment in the first half at the Parc des Princes caught the eye for all the wrong reasons in the eyes of McCoist.

McCoist rages as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia goal ruled out v Liverpool

It did look as if the Parisians had taken the lead within the opening 20 minutes as Kvaratskhelia curled home a wonderful strike.

This gave Alisson no chance of making a save in what was a near perfect showing from the 32-year-old in the French capital.

Unfortunately for the Georgia international, the semi-automated offside system confirmed that the winger was narrowly offside before picking out the far corner.

This left McCoist frustrated live on TNT Sports (5 March, 08:24pm) who was disappointed such an excellent goal be ruled out in such narrow fashion.

He said: “What a break that is. We knew it was tight. It is almost criminal to disallow that, it was such a good finish. But if it’s offside, it’s offside.”

Liverpool snatch last gasp win against PSG

There were very few positives to take away from the performance against Luis Enrique’s side who looked much more accomplished than the Reds.

If it hadn’t been for the Brazil international goalkeeper, who knows what the scoreline would have been in the French capital.

The shot-stopper wasn’t helped by his defence as Ibrahima Konate narrowly avoided a sending off while Andy Robertson continuously struggled against Ousmane Dembele.

There was a lack of forward quality either with Mohamed Salah having a rare quiet night in the Champions League.

The L4 club were ultimately bailed out by one moment, which will go down in folklore and will make many forget how poor the showing was in Paris.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Slot and Co. can learn from this performance in the reverse leg at Anfield where a quarter final place will be on the line.
