Liverpool fans rage at ‘shocking’ Slot announcement v PSG

Arne Slot has only made one change to his Liverpool starting XI for their Champions League clash against Paris St-Germain on Wednesday.

The Dutchman has chosen to stick with most of the players who triumphed 2-0 over Newcastle last time out with the Reds looking to get one over the Ligue 1 outfit in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.

Even if the Merseyside outfit can get one or two goals at the Parc des Princes it would set them up more than nicely for the return fixture at Anfield on 11 March.

However, the decision that the former Feyenoord boss has made on Jota seems to have left some supporters rather bewildered ahead of the clash.

Liverpool make two changes for PSG tie

The only change that has been made by Slot from their game against Eddie Howe’s men is that Andy Robertson has been brought in for Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.

Curtis Jones has also found himself on the bench once again despite putting in an impressive performance during his 11-minute cameo against Newcastle.

Cody Gakpo is, however, unfortunately, absent from the team completely after being left out of Liverpool’s training session on Tuesday.

This has left Mohamed Salah, Jota and Luis Diaz to lead the line and who they’ll likely look towards to make the difference.

Jota decision leaves Liverpool fans worried

Slot’s decision to start Jota despite the poor performance he put in against the Magpies has left some supporters concerned on social media.

One fan said that they’re ready for the Portugal international to be “useless”.

While another chipped in and said that the Reds need a “big performance” from the attacker.

The 2024/25 season has admittedly not been the best for the former Wolves attacker with the Portugal international often finding himself injured or dropped to the bench.

When Jurgen Klopp was the man at the helm, he was one of the Reds’ most clinical players and could have even given Salah a run for his money regarding who the best finisher at the club was.

Only time will tell whether Slot’s decision to start Jota will pay off but if it doesn’t, fans will likely be looking towards the attacker as the man to blame.

If there’s any day that a good performance needs to come out of the Liverpool talisman, today would be that day.

Because, if he can’t find his shooting boots and get himself back on track, it could make the beginning of the end of his Liverpool career.
