Arne Slot has already smashed Klopp record with Liverpool announcement v PSG

Arne Slot is already breaking records at Liverpool despite only replacing Jurgen Klopp last summer.

The Dutchman has taken the Reds to the summit of the Premier League and into the round of 16 of the Champions League.

He has made history ahead of the clash with Paris Saint-Germain (5 March) after he named his starting line-up.

Slot breaks Liverpool record with team selection v PSG

With his team selection in Paris, Slot has named the exact same starting line-up for the sixth time, more than Klopp ever did in his time at Anfield.

In fact, the German only named the exact same starting eleven in five of his 491 matches in charge of the L4 outfit according to Opta statistician Michael Reid.

Liverpool need to win against PSG

Victory in the French capital would set the Reds up for a comfortable second leg at Anfield next week.

Failure to win would leave them needing to rely on a rapturous atmosphere on Merseyside to produce another famous European comeback.

The Dutchman needs to put the rest of the competition on notice that his side will not take European football lightly despite the need to maintain their domestic superiority over Arsenal as the campaign comes to a close.

It would be a memorable first season in England if he could deliver success in the Premier League, Championship League and potentially a Carabao Cup too with a final against Newcastle (16 March).

A treble would make it arguably the best first season of all time for a manager and set him up with a very difficult task to replicate next season but with investment in the squad, it could be done again, even if unlikely.

Despite Slot’s potentially brilliant maiden campaign, credit must go to Klopp, he built the foundations of the team and could have won the league last year if not for a brutal injury crisis towards the business end that ended their contention.

Reds supporters will not forget the former Borussia Dortmund man’s contributions, even if Slot does achieve a great feat immediately after replacing him in the dugout.
