Virgil van Dijk ‘set for Liverpool exit’ after Fabrizio Romano transfer news

Virgil van Dijk’s Liverpool exit looks to be sealed after Fabrizio Romano’s latest transfer reveal.

Liverpool are looking to win only their second-ever Premier League title this season.

Paul Merson has suggested that the Reds’ name is already being engraved on the Premier League trophy after what happened to Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday (22 February). As a result, this will bring joy to everybody connected with Liverpool.

However, it will perhaps mean a little more to Van Dijk, who is out of contract at Anfield this summer and looks to already have one foot out the door after what Romano said.

Liverpool targeting brand-new centre-back, Arne Slot approves

Van Dijk is one of several high-profile stars out of contract on Merseyside this summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah’s deals also expiring at the end of the season.

While it looks as though Salah might have made a contract U-turn, the same can’t be said for Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk.

The Reds look to already be lining up a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, while Romano’s latest update suggests Arne Slot’s side are doing the same for their star centre-back.

Speaking via his YouTube channel on Saturday (22 February), Romano reported that Liverpool are targeting a brand-new centre-back this summer, with Slot having approved of these plans.

Therefore, it doesn’t look as though the club are confident of Van Dijk signing a new contract between now and June, with time quickly running out.

Van Dijk looks likely to leave Liverpool this summer

If Van Dijk was planning on signing a new contract, bringing in a new centre-back likely wouldn’t be as much of a priority as it seems to be.

Therefore, this latest update can only suggest that the Dutchman is off. If van Dijk does leave in the summer, he will leave a legend of Liverpool, especially if they clinch their second Premier League title this term.
