Paul Merson: Premier League nearly engrave Liverpool on title after Arsenal scenes

Liverpool appear to be edging closer to the Premier League title after what happened between Arsenal and West Ham.

Liverpool are enjoying a magnificent season under Arne Slot and they have shown no signs of letting up unlike those around them.

Arsenal dropped what could prove to be a crucial three points in the title race, with West Ham securing only their second win under Graham Potter.

The result means that the Gunners are now eight points behind Liverpool, having played the same number of games, as the latter edge closer to having their name engraved on the Premier League title.

Liverpool on verge of Premier League title

Just as the Gunners were trailing 1-0 to West Ham, Merson just about accepted defeat on behalf of Arsenal in regard to the title race.

At this stage in the season, when taking into account the form of Liverpool, it seems unlikely that much is going to change and it is a sentiment seemingly shared by Merson.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (22 February, 4:08pm), Merson said: “They’ve just about got Live… on the trophy now.

“They’re just engraving it now.”

Of course, Liverpool still need to do their job and ensure they pick up points when the chances come but things are looking very positive for the Reds heading into the latter stages of the campaign.

Liverpool are approaching the final hurdle

It’s looking increasingly likely that the Reds are going to win their first Premier League trophy under the stewardship of Slot and it would be massively deserved.

Liverpool have been in red-hot form all campaign with no other side in the league capable of replicating the performances they have showcased on a weekly basis.

With a big encounter with Manchester City approaching, a win would surely all but seal the title for the Merseysiders, and what a way it would be to do it against the team who have been the closest rival for several years.

Just 12 games remain in the current campaign, with Slot’s side still having only tasted defeat on one occasion in the league and should they finish the season as Champions, it would be a physical showcase of just how impressive they have been.
