Matt Beard ‘has simple Liverpool Women call’ after Arsenal fixture change
Liverpool Women were hammered 4-0 by Manchester City on Sunday in a frustrating result for Matt Beard.
The Reds are three points off the top five after the result with a Champions League spot looking unlikely in the final stages of the dismal injury-plagued campaign.
However, a new announcement could give them a chance to focus on cup glory rather than their disappointing Women’s Super League campaign.

Liverpool handed new date for Arsenal clash
The Reds have announced a new date for the WSL Clash with Arsenal due to broadcasting decisions.
The club announced that the contest that is set to be played at the Emirates Stadium will kick off at 17:30 BST on 22 March and will be shown on Sky Sports.
WSL | Played | GD | Points |
3. Arsenal | 14 | +25 | 30 |
4. Man City | 14 | +16 | 28 |
5. Brighton | 14 | -5 | 18 |
6. Tottenham | 14 | -12 | 17 |
7. Liverpool | 14 | -11 | 15 |
Liverpool Women have endured a rough season
Matt Beard’s side have struggled this season, picking up just 15 points from 14 league matches and find themselves closer to the one relegation spot than they do to the Champions League.
It is unlikely that they qualify this season given that the Gunners, who occupy the third and final qualification spot are 15 points ahead of the Reds with eight matches left.
To be fair to Beard his side has suffered from several injury setbacks with the likes of Marie Hobinger and Sophie Roman Haug only returning to action recently and Sofie Lundgaard still out with an ACL injury.
The L4 outfit still have hope of some kind of success this season as they progressed to the sixth-round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Rugby Borough (9 February).
They will face Arsenal in the next round and that could define their season given the underwhelming nature of it so far so they will be satisfied that the cup fixture with the Gunners is before the league clash rather than the other way round.
They will hope to win the FA Cup and finish strongly in the league, ready to go again in the pursuit of greater things next season with a fully fit squad and hopefully some new investment from the owners in the playing squad after loan deals were secured in the winter window.
