Exclusive: Liverpool ready £200m move to replace Salah and Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool are set for a huge rebuild in the summer transfer window, according to a finance expert.

The Reds are yet to agree on new contracts with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah with the trio set to leave for free at the end of the season as is stands.

As well as replacing those key players if they do not agree on new deals, Arne Slot is said to be frustrated with his attacking options as Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez continue to underwhelm.

The Anfield outfit are also lacking quality options at left-back and centre-back so a major revamp may be on the cards.

Liverpool could spend over £200m in the summer

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, finance expert Dan Plumley gave his verdict on the Reds’ summer plans, saying: “I think if you are looking and it is not an exact science is it because we know that player market transfer valuations, there is difficulty in getting an exact value.

“There is the interesting point, particularly with Van Dijk and Salah about their age but you would still expect them to command a fee in an open market if they were not moving on a free.

“If you look at that even on a ballpark level, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Salah, Nunez, you are looking at kind of £200 million to replace them at the very least, now that is assuming that you try to go like for like and buy players with a very high stock in the current market that are ready and raring to go so to speak.

“You might look to invest in younger talent for cheaper and look to completely redevelop the squad and go on a but of a transition again, there is lots of question marks within the numbers there.

Liverpool may not be able to afford £200m rebuild

However, Plumley has questioned whether the L4 outfit can afford to spend such large amounts in the summer despite plenty of concerns over their squad going forward.

He said: “If you look at those four players as a decent benchmark and replacing like for like, you are in the region of £200m spend and you might not be able to do that, even for a club of Liverpool’s financial power, that might not be possible in one hit, in one window.

“I do think a lot of it will be dictated by what Liverpool do this season, you know, do they win the Premier League and Champions League this season? How much silverware do they end up with, will also factor into what happens with those players.”

The uncertainty surrounding the future of the squad and several key players is a concern for Liverpool supporters, it will be an interesting summer regardless of what happens.
