Darwin Nunez transfer news as £60m+ Liverpool claim emerges

Darwin Nunez’s future at Liverpool is something that has been discussed fairly consistently since the start of the season.

So far, the striker has failed to live up to the potential he showed at Benfica with the Uruguay international often missing out on golden opportunities to put the Reds ahead in games.

This has been the case for most of the campaign too as, in Liverpool’s last Premier League clash against Aston Villa that ended in a 2-2 draw, Nunez had the opportunity to send his team into the lead but instead, he missed the target completely.

After being singled out by Arne Slot in his pre-Manchester City press conference already this week, it seems that Liverpool have already made their minds up about where his future lies.

Liverpool to demand massive fee for Darwin Nunez

During the January transfer window, news broke that a couple of Saudi Arabian sides were interested in acquiring the strikers’ services with the Reds even rejecting a deal.

However, according to TBR Football (21 February), it seems that Slot is looking for over £60million to pry the attacker away from Anfield.

Nunez is reportedly “ready to leave” the Reds with sources close to the situation claiming that he’s now “likely” to exit.

The report adds that due to Liverpool’s demands for the striker, there are few options on the table for the 25-year-old in the summer.

Nunez has also “accepted” that his future now lies away from the Merseyside outfit after failing to impress.

Darwin Nunez exit now seems likely

Even though Liverpool may have finished at the top of the Champions League table and are currently happily sitting at the top of the Premier League, more can come from Slot’s men.

One key area that they’ve lacked in this season is that of striker. The likes of Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have all had their fair share of games as the Reds’ focal point.

However, none have really stuck to it and if they have, they’ve been nowhere near prolific enough.

If they do manage to sell Nunez for a fee around the £60million mark, it would give them more than enough money to explore the market and perhaps source a new focal point for the 2025/26 season.

Only time will tell what the future holds but for now, it seems that Nunez isn’t likely to be donning the red of Liverpool next term.
