Carragher makes Mohamed Salah contract claim at Liverpool – ‘I can assure you…’

Jamie Carragher has shared an insight into Mohamed Salah’s future amid conversations about the forward’s future at Anfield.

Liverpool are in terrific form this term and they look to be heading towards the Premier League title under Arne Slot.

However, upon the conclusion of the campaign, there may be some less cheery discussions that need to take place at Anfield with some key men out of contract.

Jamie Carragher says Mo Salah has been offered a contract at Liverpool

With three core players in Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk all being out of contract at the end of the season, there are some important conversations that need to take place.

Conversations and speculation surrounding their futures have dominated headlines throughout the campaign so far.

Nevertheless, the Reds seemed to have blocked out any noise pretty easily and Slot has taken absolutely no time to adapt to life at Anfield with his side sitting eight points clear at the top of the table.

While this would make one think that a decision for all parties would be to extend contracts, things have not been so simple thus far and the future of Slot’s men remains uncertain.

However, speaking on the Overlap Fan Debate podcast, Carragher claimed that a contract has been put on the table for Salah as he said: “Do not believe he hasn’t been offered a contract. I can actually assure you he has been offered a contract.”

Although this implies that there may be a reason it isn’t signed, Carragher also played down any links to Saudi Arabia as he added: “We talk about Saudi, I just can’t see Salah doing that. He’s too driven, he’s too much of a winner. I think Salah can go until he’s 37, 38. He can play.

“For me, because they’re still so good now. I understand what they’ve done for the club but they’re still so good right now that I don’t think you can be offering them a year.”

Liverpool need to secure the services of Mo Salah

Salah has not had a bad season for Liverpool but this term, he is delivering on different levels.

In the Premier League, he has contributed a staggering 24 goals and 15 assists across 26 appearances which just highlights how vital he is in the Liverpool squad.

Carragher’s claims make it seem as though there is only a one-year contract on the table for Salah to sign and you can understand why at 32-years-old the player might want something a bit longer with more security.

However, the Reds need to stop being stubborn because if anyone has earned that right to a longer contract, Salah is certainly that man.

With Liverpool looking like they’ll win the Premier League in their first season under Slot as well as being in the final of the Carabao Cup and still in the Champions League, it suggests very exciting times could come under the Dutchman.

Therefore, the hierarchy at Anfield need to ensure they are supporting the manager by keeping these integral players in Merseyside which gives the boss more time for succession planning while also enjoying the roles they are very much living up to.
