Lamine Yamal has put pressure on Liverpool in the Champions League after they finished top of the new-look format.

Arne Slot has taken no time to adapt to life at Anfield with the Reds sitting top of the Premier League, and the Champions League and heading to a Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

The Reds finished in top spot in the Champions League table with 21 points, two ahead of Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter Milan.

Lamine Yamal makes new Liverpool prediction

Slot's side won seven of their eight games and conceded just five goals, taking their strong league form this term into European competition.

Barcelona claim second in the table due to having a higher goal difference than either of their rivals on the same points, with Yamal sharing his verdict ahead of the return to knockout action.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo on 19 February, Yamal said: "There is only one team in the Champions League that is more favoured than us, and that is Liverpool because they finished first."

Liverpool have what it takes for Champions League success

Since arriving at Anfield, Slot has shown himself to be very measured emotionally rather than someone who is going to be getting carried away either positively or negatively.

With that in mind, the Dutchman will not be keen to discuss whether his side are favourites to lift the Champions League, regardless of what others say.

Liverpool are also now heavy favourites to lift the Premier League, with outside noise being blocked out ahead of a huge end to the season at Anfield.

Nevertheless, whether domestically or further afield, the Reds have been able to keep their standards high this term and offer consistently high performances throughout.

Anything can happen in the Champions League, but with Liverpool becoming the first team to top the new league phase, pressure comes alongside that.

However, if there is one team who won't be spooked by the prospect of any pressure to perform then it certainly is the Merseyside outfit who can keep their cool.

For Yamal and Barcelona, they will be doing all in their power to push themselves as far as possible in the Champions League as they look to replicate the success they are currently experiencing in La Liga.
