Liverpool ‘draw their guns’ for Bundesliga striker as £66m transfer news emerges
Liverpool appear to be prepared to break the bank to sign a Bundesliga striker this summer as they look to strengthen their attack.
Liverpool are seemingly preparing for an overhaul in attack at the end of the season, with Arne Slot prepared to sell Darwin Nunez.
Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are also facing uncertain futures at Anfield, with the Dutch tactician particularly growing frustrated with the Colombia international.
With Mohamed Salah also in the final five months of his contract, word is underway to bolster the Reds’ options in attack for next season.
Liverpool in hunt to sign Hugo Ekitike
The Merseyside-based club are in the running to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, according to Foot Mercato.
Reporting via their website (18 February), the news outlet revealed that the Anfield outfit are ready to “draw their guns” out for the France Under-23s international in the summer.
Liverpool, though, face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and West Ham United for the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) hitman.
As for Frankfurt, they are “rubbing their hands” over the prospect of selling Ekitike for a hefty transfer fee, with a £66.4million price tag already set for 2026.
The Bundesliga club have not ruled out the possibility of selling the Frenchman this summer, leaving the door open for Liverpool to make a move.
Arne Slot has transfer dilemma
As things stand, Salah, Nunez, Diaz and Jota face uncertain futures on Merseyside, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are also nearing the end of their contracts.
Liverpool cannot afford to lose all six of them as it would destabilise the squad too much, meaning Slot has a major dilemma ahead of the summer.

The former Feyenoord boss must decide who he wants to keep and who he wants to offload.
This would also mean a huge problem for Richard Hughes, who is tasked with overseeing the club’s recruitment process.
Ekitike would be a great signing for the Reds as he has bagged 17 goals and six assists from 32 games across all competitions for Frankfurt this season.
At 22, the former PSG frontman also has his best years ahead of him, meaning he could lead the line for Slot’s side for years to come.
