Arne Slot aims jibe at Everton after Liverpool joke at Bramley Moore Dock
Arne Slot was quick to aim a jibe at Everton in his latest media after Liverpool had a part to play in the first test event at Bramley Moore Dock.
The Reds are yet again miles clear of the Toffees in the Premier League, currently occupying the top spot as they dominate from Anfield.
However, the rivalry between the two Merseyside clubs remains as strong as ever and after the drama of the last derby at Goodison Park, that has only been renewed.
Arne Slot makes joke about Liverpool scorer against Everton
Everton hosted their first test event at their new stadium on Monday (17 February), playing an under-18s game against Wigan Athletic.
While supporters on the Blue side of the city were pleased with their new stadium, the result did not live up to the event with Wigan running out 2-1 winners.
The first goal was scored after just 12 minutes with the visitors taking the lead through Harrison Rimmer.
After breaking the deadlock, the scorer celebrated by holding up six fingers to signal Liverpool’s European titles, mocking the home supporters.
The Liverpool supporter has surely written his name in history and the celebration even led to attention from Slot, which he will no doubt be delighted with.
Speaking ahead of the Reds’ game against Aston Villa (18 February), a reporter revealed they were at Bramley Moore Dock on Monday night.
Slot was quick to respond: “Who scored first?” taking a dig at his rivals.
Liverpool get their own back against Everton
The final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park certainly did not lack drama as Everton scored in the 98th minute to steal a 2-2 draw.
The goal sparked emotion from all areas of the ground with some home supporters running onto the pitch at the time to celebrate.
After the conclusion of the game, Curtis Jones was shown a second yellow card for his reaction to Abdoulaye Doucoure who celebrated in front of the travelling Liverpool supporters and received the same punishment after a brawl followed.
Slot and his assistant were also sent off after their reaction to the referee after the game.
Although it wasn’t three points, the Blues supporters certainly felt like they had won the game after making their finale so memorable, which is a non-existent piece of silverware they can keep.
However, the Reds can now feel like they’ve got their own back without lifting a finger.
As Everton gets ready to embark on a new era at their new stadium, Liverpool will always be able to hold it over their rivals that the first goal scored was by a fan of their own.
