Harvey Elliott could be finished at Liverpool after £40m+ transfer news
Harvey Elliott could be coming toward the end of his time with Liverpool after a recent transfer update.
Arne Slot has inherited a talented Liverpool team which looks well-positioned to beat Arsenal to the Premier League title at this current moment.
The Reds are flying high and despite their disappointing and controversy-filled 2-2 Premier League draw with Everton in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday (12 February), confidence will likely still be high ahead of the Premier League clash with Wolves at Anfield on Sunday (16 February).
However, once the dust settles at the end of the season, Slot will start to think about building the Liverpool squad in his own image, and which players he wants to keep around as part of that rebuild.
Therefore, this could spell bad news for Elliott, especially after a recent transfer update.
Harvey Elliott could be finished at Liverpool
Elliott has been on the periphery of the Liverpool squad since returning from injury.
The midfielder is yet to start in the Premier League this season, with the majority of his starts coming in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Therefore, it is clear that Slot views the 21-year-old as a squad player.
As a result, if any midfielders are to be moved on to bring in new players in that area of the pitch, Elliott will likely be near the top of that list, and it looks as though Slot’s side already have their eyes on someone.
As reported by SportBILD (page 31, 12 February), Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson is a target for Liverpool, with a host of top clubs also chasing the £41.6million-rated midfielder’s signature.
Hugo Larsson to replace Harvey Elliott
If Liverpool are going to sign Larsson, they will need to raise some funds, which could mean players are moved on.
Considering Larsson is just 20 years old, to keep the squad balanced, moving on 21-year-old Elliott would make the most sense, especially considering his position in the squad as of this moment.
In addition, Elliott will have just two years left on his Liverpool contract this summer. Therefore, if the Reds are going to cash in, now is the time.

However, there is still a bit of time left between now and the summer transfer window for Elliott to change Slot’s mind and prove that he deserves to remain on Merseyside.
