Elliott ‘must prove himself to Slot’ after what happened for Liverpool v Everton

Harvey Elliott has some making up to do after his handball lost Liverpool the game against Plymouth Argyle.

The 21-year-old held his hands high above his head to give Ryan Hardie the chance to score at Home Park, in a moment which ultimately dumped the Reds out of the FA Cup, and had to hold them up again to apologise to his team-mates.

Despite playing 90 minutes in that defeat, the England Under-21 international was an unused substitute against Everton in the Merseyside Derby draw.

Given what happened after full-time at Goodison Park, there is every chance the attacking midfielder will be soon given a chance to impress.

Liverpool to be without Curtis Jones after Everton red card

James Tarkowski smashed home a late volley in L4 to secure a point for the Toffees which sparked wild scenes in the stands.

Despite only drawing, Abdoulaye Doucoure opted to celebrate in front of the away fans which incensed Curtis Jones.

The 24-year-old grabbed the Mali international resulting in unsavoury scenes on the pitch ultimately resulting in the Reds midfielder being sent off for his actions.

Arne Slot faced the same fate for showing his annoyance to Michael Oliver who duly showed the manager a red card.

This will see the Dutchman face a touchline ban at Anfield and elsewhere while his side are set to be without the England international midfielder for upcoming clashes.

As a result, there is now a perfect opportunity for another midfielder to step in and take the limelight and prove why they should be starting for the Reds.

Harvey Elliott must step up in Curtis Jones’ absence

Elliott has struggled for minutes since Slot came in despite showing many positive signs in recent seasons after returning from a severe injury.

With that being said, he needs to be knocking on his manager’s door and demanding that he takes Jones’ place for upcoming games against Wolves and Aston Villa.

If the ex-Fulham man is given that chance, he must take it with both hands to prove to the Dutchman why he should play more regularly for the Anfield club.

This is especially the case after his error against Plymouth which was inexplicable, especially against a lower league side who are bottom of their division.

The upcoming fixtures with Jones missing, could give the attacking midfielder the perfect chance to right the wrongs of the Home Park loss.
