Liverpool to ‘show different side’ v Everton as Slot makes ‘unacceptable’ claim

Liverpool are determined to “show a different side” against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday after Arne Slot made an “unacceptable” admission.

Slot and Co were left stunned as they crashed out of the FA Cup after a shock 1-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Sunday (9 February), with a Ryan Hardie penalty sealing the win for the hosts.

Liverpool, thus, saw their hopes of winning the quadruple this season come crashing down just days after the media talked up the possibility following their 4-1 win against Tottenham on aggregate in the EFL Cup semi-final.

As the Reds turn their attention back to the Premier League, Slot has stressed the need for them to show a different side when they lock horns with Everton.

Arne Slot disappointed by Liverpool performance

Speaking ahead of the trip to Goodison Park, Slot admitted that losing against Plymouth was “unacceptable” for the Premier League table-toppers.

The Dutch tactician said that, apart from the result, the Reds’ performance against the Pilgrims also left much to be desired and pointed out the need for the team to bounce back against David Moyes’ side.

“To lose against Plymouth is unacceptable”, Slot told a press conference, as relayed by the Liverpool ECHO (11 February). “We are disappointed with that result.

“Now we have to show a different side of us tomorrow [Wednesday].

“It was not only the result, the performance was far below Liverpool standards as well.”

Reds ready for final Goodison Park derby

The Merseyside derby on Wednesday will be the last-ever game between Liverpool and Everton at Goodison Park and that adds extra spice to the game.

Slot’s side would not want to be the subject of another poor result after the shock defeat against Plymouth as they look to retain their strong position in the Premier League.

At the same time, a convincing win against a resurgent Everton side would boost the Reds’ confidence about winning the title further.

Slot is certain to bring his big hitters back into the starting line-up on Wednesday, although Trent Alexander-Arnold is a fitness doubt.

Moyes, meanwhile, may be without first-choice left-back Vitalii Mykolenko, which means Mohamed Salah may be up against 39-year-old Ashley Young on Wednesday.

All that remains to be seen is if the Anfield outfit can put Sunday’s disappointment behind them and return to winning ways against Everton.
