Jamie Carragher moots Alexander Isak to Liverpool after Arsenal news
Jamie Carragher has questioned who Alexander Isak who choose to sign for out of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Arne Slot is working wonders in his first year at Anfield, the Reds finished top of the Champions League league phase and can go nine points clear at the top of the Premier League with a win against Everton on Wednesday (12 February).
And despite suffering a shock FA Cup exit following the 1-0 loss against Plymouth Argyle (9 February), a second consecutive Carabao Cup final is on the horizon after the 4-0 win at Anfield against Tottenham on 6 February.
However, Slot has yet to put his stamp on the current Liverpool side he inherited from Jurgen Klopp, barring Federico Chiesa and will undoubtedly look to improve his ranks at the end of the season.
Jamie Carragher believes Isak could sign for Liverpool
Although the Reds are on course for a potential treble-winning season, concerns have emerged regarding the current attacking crop.
The ongoing uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future is at the forefront, whereas Luis Diaz has been abysmal in recent weeks after his bright start to the campaign.
Furthermore, Anfield Watch reported on 8 February, that Diogo Jota is frustrating Slot and his worrying form paired with his torrid fitness record could lead to a sale in the summer.
Darwin Nunez will always be touted for the chopping block at Anfield as he fails to reach the heights promised following his club-record acquisition from Benfica in 2022.
That being said, all of the main attacking options are facing uncertain futures under Slot, and a major revamp to the front line could be in the future at the end of the season.
Isak has been a sensation in the Premier League this term, scoring 17 goals in 22 outings and drawing interest from title rivals Arsenal (TEAMtalk, 8 February).
However, Carragher questioned an Arsenal fan on The Overlap (11 February, 40:43) regarding the transfer rumours and believes the Reds would be a far more attractive prospect should they win the title.
“I think Liverpool are desperate for a centre forward, if I’m being totally honest. But there’s no talk about Liverpool getting him. I don’t understand where all this Arsenal talk [is coming from] because Liverpool need one as well.
“And if Liverpool win the league, if he was to go, surely you [would] pick the team who won the league.”
Alexander Isak would be a dream fit for Anfield
Although the speculation has since gone quiet, Liverpool are monitoring his contract talks with Newcastle, which have dragged on throughout the year.
A release clause is proving to be a sticking point in negotiations, as the player is eager for the Magpies not to block the next step in his career with a bullish price tag.

According to James Pearce (4 February), Slot will be able to spend big money in the summer after two windows of minimum spending.
Still, Newcastle’s reported £150m pricetag for Isak will be too costly for any club to match, given the ongoing threat of PSR.
Should Isak extend on fresh terms at St James Park, with a release clause in place, this will undoubtedly help the Reds should they view the Swedish international as the man to lead a potentially new-look frontline at Anfield.
