Arne Slot seen disgusted by what happened in Liverpool loss v Plymouth

Arne Slot was seen looking disgusted with a couple of passages of play from his Liverpool side in their shock 1-0 FA Cup defeat against Plymouth.

The Reds were rather surprisingly on the backfoot for most of the clash with Harvey Elliott giving away of the penalty proving to be the difference-maker between the two sides.

The Pilgrims were gifted their goal by a lapse in judgement from the former Fulham man but Liverpool should have done much better regarding their composure in the final third.

None of Slot’s men deserve any plaudits for their performance with this being one of the worst outings in the Dutchman’s era thus far.

Liverpool need to get over the defeat and get back to winning ways

In both the Premier League and the Champions League, the Merseyside outfit have been one the most dominant forces with only the likes of Nottingham Forest and PSV getting the upper hand on them.

Plenty of second-string players were named in Slot’s starting XI and it’s evident why the Dutchman has been so protective over the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in recent weeks.

To make matters worse, Slot has once again lost Joe Gomez due to injury with his return to action not yet known.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (9 February, 15:46pm), BBC chief Phil McNulty shared what he noticed of Slot on the sidelines.

“Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has turned around to his backroom staff in disgust on a couple of occasions,” he wrote.

“He is clearly frustrated by Liverpool’s failure to exert any sort of control against a Plymouth side struggling in the Championship.

“The Premier League leaders may have made those 10 changes but this has still been a distinctly average Liverpool display.”

Arne Slot needs to figure out what went wrong

Plymouth have been one of the worst-performing teams in the Championship this season and are rock bottom of the second-tier table.

Going into the game, many expected the game to be a breeze for the Reds but instead, it was anything but that.

Slot did choose to make a fair few changes to his starting XI but even then, with the likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Federico Chiesa leading the attacking line, they should have played much better.

Liverpool’s final third composure alongside their distinct lack of attacking creativity coupled together to create a rather poor outing from the Reds.

Only time will tell whether Slot will now focus most of his attention on the Premier League or not but if he does, he’s going to have to somehow try and get his team over this horrendous defeat.

Because, if they don’t and they play like they did against Plymouth against a Premier League opponent, things will only go south and to be quite frank, that’s the last thing fans want.
