Arne Slot ‘set to turn to youth duo’ for FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle

Arne Slot looks set to turn to the youth setup at Liverpool for their FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle after two notable omissions were made from the Under-21s side.

Liverpool are enjoying a magnificent season under the stewardship of Slot, with various different routes of success still easily achievable.

One of those is the FA Cup, in which Liverpool have already seen off lower-league opposition with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.

Much of the same will be expected from the Reds, as Liverpool prepare to travel to Plymouth in the fourth round of the competition on Sunday (9 February), with two inclusions now looking rather likely after they were absent from the youth games earlier in the week.

Several academy prospects have already been afforded an opportunity in the first team under Slot, with Connor Bradley just one of them to have excelled.

However, given the hectic schedule and likely priorities elsewhere, Liverpool could make many changes to their 11 for Plymouth, with Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha both potentially in line for an appearance.

Neither were involved for the Under-21s during the week, and with Slot likely to rotate his squad, the reasoning behind their absence may well be because of his plans to include them on Sunday.

Both players were involved in the third-round triumph against Accrington Stanley, and the expectancy is that they will be in the squad at Home Park once again.

Still just 17 and 16 years old respectively, the duo have plenty of promise and will only benefit from getting first-team exposure in a side flourishing under Slot.

Liverpool have a huge chance of progressing in the FA Cup

While the Premier League and Champions League will undoubtedly take priority, the success that can come from the FA Cup should not be overlooked.

With the depth available, and many rising stars among the Liverpool ranks, the Reds should be looking to not only progress past Plymouth but go on to win the competition.

Given how well Liverpool have fared under Slot, the possibility of a quadruple is certainly on the cards and it would mark his English tenure with a remarkable stamp of authority.

Should the aforementioned duo feature, among other youth prospects, it will provide an interesting aspect to the clash and one that Liverpool should certainly be winning.
