Liverpool ready to make Xavi Simons swoop as release clause update emerges

Liverpool have shown an interest in Xavi Simons just a week after he signed permanently for RB Leipzig.

The Reds have had an excellent season to this point, which saw them conduct no winter transfer business under Arne Slot.

It appears that there is already one eye on the summer transfer window at Anfield with a forward option already being considered despite a positive campaign in front of goal so far.

Liverpool interested in signing Xavi Simons

There have been many star performers in the forward line in L4 since the start of the season with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luiz Diaz all catching the eye.

Even with that being the case, the Reds could make a summer swoop to sign Simons from RB Leipzig with a move away from the Bundesliga looking likely, according to Christian Falk. Simons completed a permanent switch from PSG on 30 January having been on loan from the Parisien giants.

The German journalist reported on 7 February that there is interest coming from Merseyside alongside the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United.

It was “surprising” that Marco Rose’s side completed a £41million deal for the Netherlands international in January given that his contract only lasts until 2027, Falk reported.

As a result, the 21-year-old could be on the move at the end of the season, especially with the potential of a “gentleman’s agreement or a release clause” in his deal at the Red Bull Arena.

This could prove to be the perfect opportunity for Slot to step in and bring his fellow countryman to the Premier League ahead of his second season in charge at Anfield.

Xavi Simons eyes set on RB Leipzig summer exit

There is no doubt that the ex-PSV Eindhoven forward is a star in the making and has performed at a top level since joining the German outfit in 2023.

This season, the versatile forward has scored four and assisted three in just 12 appearances and has since completed a permanent move to the Bundesliga.

If the Dutchman does want to move on so quickly after completing that switch, the chiefs at Anfield need to be quick to complete a deal.

With Salah’s contract situation still up in the air and some consistencies in the forward line at times, Simons’ creativity could be a useful asset next season.

It will also be a statement from Slot and Co. to beat Pep Guardiola and Ruben Amorim to the Leipzig man in the summer after this fresh report.
