Liverpool ‘serious’ about new midfielder transfer as agent breaks silence

Liverpool now have “serious interest” in Red Star Belgrade midfielder Andrija Maksimovic, according to his agent.

Zoran Stojadinovic has confirmed that the Reds, alongside other clubs such as Aston Villa and RB Leipzig, are all interested in acquiring the 17-year-old’s services.

However, while speaking to the Express (2 February), Stojadinoivc shared how much the Serbian outfit may want for their youth gem.

“It’s no secret, there are some [offers],” he said. “Liverpool are among them, Aston Villa, Leipzig and Atletico Madrid so all the clubs from the top leagues have shown serious interest.

“And then we get to whether the price is £8.4m or £16.7m, so they say ‘let’s see if it’s £16.7m by June’.

“If the price was £8.4m and he could go, Maksimovic would have already been sold.”

Liverpool signing Andrija Maksimovic would be a smart move

After the success that Bournemouth have had by signing younger players, it’s not a surprise to see other clubs trying to do the same.

While attacking-midfield reinforcement isn’t likely all that high on the Reds’ priority list, it feels like signing Maksimovic would be a smart move, for the right price of course.

At the moment, Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai are the Reds’ main men for the number 10 role and it feels like the youngster wouldn’t have a direct route into the first team if he joined.

That’s because the 17-year-old is still fairly rough around the edges and still needs time to develop but the fact he’s played in seven Champions League games this season and 26 across all competitions shows how much of a talent he is.

While a fee north of £16.7m is an awful lot of money for the Reds to spend on the hope he gets better, for a cheaper price, a deal could be made worthwhile for all the involved parties.
