Premier League make official Milos Kerkez-Liverpool announcement
Liverpool will breathe a sigh of relief after Milos Kerkez was offside in the build-up to the apparent Bournemouth equaliser.
The Reds travelled to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday (1 February) with three key players missing after Arne Slot ended the Champions League league phase with a 3-2 loss away at PSV.
However, the Premier League released an official statement via X (1 February) detailing why David Brooks’ equaliser in the first half was overturned on the South Coast.
Writing: “The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Kerkez in an offside position in the build-up.”
Milos Kerkez helps Liverpool v Bournemouth
Before any over-eager Liverpool supporters read too much into it – no, Kerkez did not stray offside on purpose.
The Reds faithful have made their opinions on the Hungarian full-back abundantly clear as it appears Richard Hughes will not be dipping into the transfer market in the final days of the winter window.
However, Kerkez has since responded to speculation regarding a move to Merseyside in a YouTube livestream (23 January) and shut down the rumours.
Nevertheless, Slot will be thankful for his efforts at the Vitality as the Reds clung to a one-goal lead to send a statement of intent to the Premier League.
If supporters had been told before the season kicked off that clashes against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth would hold more importance than Manchester United and Manchester City, they would have laughed.

Liverpool were helped by VAR, with the officials confirming Lewis Cook’s trip on Cody Gakpo worthy of Mohamed Salah’s match-winning penalty and then denying Brooks his goal.
The Reds faithful will not be getting carried away just yet, but there is no more denying that the 20th Premier League title is on the cards this year.
