Arne Slot ‘ready to unleash X-factor’ Liverpool gem v PSV Eindhoven

Arne Slot could be set to unleash “X-factor” young Liverpool winger Trent Kone-Doherty against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.

The Reds travel to Eindhoven on 29 January needing just a point to secure the top spot in the opening Champions League phase.

As a result, the Dutchman has left several starters out of the travelling squad such as Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

The 18-year-old could make his first team debut in the contest after being named in the 21-man squad.

Liverpool ready to unleash Kone-Doherty

In an interview with Liverpool Echo in November 2023, former Derry City under-19s coach Gerard Boyle said that he “always thought he had an X factor about him.”

That has been evident on numerous occasions for the Reds’ academy sides and may finally be able to showcase his talent at the senior level.

The Republic of Ireland under-19 international scored 15 goals and notched three assists in 27 appearances in the Anfield outfit’s youth ranks last season.

He has four goals in 17 games this campaign, including two strikes in six UEFA Youth League league-phase matches.

Since joining the Reds academy, he has notched 29 goals and six assists in 64 matches but is yet to be handed a chance to impress in the first-team.

Comfortable on both feet with pace to burn, the Irish star could give supporters a glimpse of his talents on Wednesday and they will be introduced to a new Trent.
