Gabby Agbonlahor is wrong with his claims about Liverpool and the Premier League title race.

Arne Slot has taken the English game by storm in his first season in charge of the Reds, losing just one of his first 18 league matches.

The Merseyside club are eight points clear of Nottingham Forest at the summit after the 5-0 victory over West Ham on 29 December, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City a further nine, ten and 14 points back respectively.

Speaking on talkSPORT [30 December, 6:40], the former Aston Villa forward made a bold call on the title race, saying: "I think it will be done after 32/33 games, it will be one of them seasons.

"Chelsea will continue to drop points in certain games, I think Man City will, I think Arsenal will drop points as well.

"Liverpool will definitely win the league now."

Liverpool will not get ahead of themselves

The Reds will not be getting ahead of themselves despite their big lead at the top of the table.

They will be taking each game as it comes and not focusing on the end of the season at the moment as there are still plenty of matches still to play.

Supporters will be dreaming of wrapping the league title up early like they did in the 2019/20 season when they were crowned champions after a record 31 games, ironically it was also the latest-ever title win coming in June after the COVID pandemic had wreaked havoc on the English game.

However, there could still be plenty of twists in the race, with the Reds having 20 matches still to play, anything could happen between now and May.

They could suffer an injury crisis or simply a drop in form which would allow their rivals to catch up and overhaul them at the top of the pile as has happened in previous seasons under Jurgen Klopp.

Reinforcements in the January transfer window could reduce that risk but there are no guarantees in football until it is mathematically sealed and Reds supporters know that.

Thankfully, Slot is the last person getting ahead of themselves - he knows the mission in hand.
