Liverpool receive Harvey Elliott injury boost as training ground footage emerges
Harvey Elliott has been spotted training with the Under-21s at Liverpool as he takes a significant step in his rehabilitation over the international break.
The 21-year-old has not featured for the Reds this season after fracturing his foot on international duty for the England Under-21s in the summer.
Now, Arne Slot has received a timely boost to his first team squad ahead of a daunting fixture schedule stretching until the New Year with Elliott back on the field at the AXA Training Centre.
Liverpool shared the footage of Elliott via X on Monday [11 November] with the caption “Making progress” with the midfielder on track to return to the first team frame against Southampton on Sunday [24 November].
Will Harvey Elliott pick up where he left off for Liverpool?
Towards the business end of last season wherein Liverpool suffered a dramatic fall-off and crashed out of the Premier League title race and all remaining cup competitions, Elliott was arguably the only bright spark in such a cruel end to Jurgen Klopp’s tenure.
The midfielder took it upon himself to be the decisive factor in the side following the 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield and provided five goal contributions [one goal and four assists] in the final Premier League matches to establish himself as a nailed-on starter under Klopp.
However, despite the Reds leading the league, five points clear of Manchester City, some flaws must be adjusted heading into the winter schedule to provide the squad that extra killing edge.
Dominik Szoboszlai has endured a torrid spell of form under Slot and has subsequently lost his place in the starting lineup to Curtis Jones as the advanced midfielder.
Elliott made his name playing in the number 10 role in the youth setup at Fulham and on loan at Blackburn Rovers and, until now, has been unable to play in his preferred position at Anfield.
Slot could be about to unleash his secret weapon on the Premier League but considering the youngster has spent a significant spell away from the first team, it is unknown whether he will immediately hit the ground running on his return to the side.
Regardless, Elliott proved last term that he can be an important member of this squad – he will have to prove himself once again under the new boss but his return could not be more aptly timed with the biggest tests ahead and a position needing to be filled that has yet to bear fruit for Liverpool.
In other Liverpool news, one Reds star can now be considered the most important player for Arne Slot.
