Arne Slot delivers Federico Chiesa injury update ahead of Liverpool v Brighton clash

Arne Slot has revealed Federico Chiesa is not expected to return for Liverpool until after the November international break.

The 27-year-old has started just once since his summer move from Juventus in the 5-1 win against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

When quizzed for an update on the injuries to Alisson and Diogo Jota, Slot also provided the latest on Chiesa in his pre-match press conference [1 November] as the Italian is confirmed to miss the Reds’ second clash in four days against Brighton at Anfield.

He said: “Said it already a few times, always difficult to tell you exactly when they are ready as last phase of recovery can be a few days later or less.

“Let’s see if they can join us after the international break. Chiesa is not back before the international break. We are hoping he can do things in the international break then join us.”

Liverpool should repeat Brighton win at Anfield without Federico Chiesa

Chiesa is becoming a serious cause of concern for Liverpool, his signing raised questions marks as Slot added a sixth option to his forward line and now questions are beginning to emerge as to whether his acquisition was a misfire altogether.

Regardless, the Reds earned a 3-2 win against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday [30 October] despite Jarell Quansah single-handedly setting up a nervy final minutes to the encounter at the Amex Stadium.

Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz were named as the only two forwards in a system without a central striker and still managed to get among the goals.

Federico Chiesa Liverpool

Slot is eager for his side to remain competitive on all fronts this season, furthermore, the Reds are grinding out results despite injuries to several key stars.

However, Liverpool missed a golden opportunity to steal an early march in the race for the Premier League title, relying on Mohamed Salah to salvage a 2-2 draw at the Emirates against an Arsenal side who finished the match without William Saliba or Gabriel.

Manchester City are now leading the league and if history is anything to go by, Pep Guardiola won’t give up the top spot easily. The Reds will need to be at the peak of their powers to stop a fifth consecutive title heading to Manchester.
