Liverpool Women ace Teagan Micah excited for WSL season after what she has seen in training

Liverpool Women’s goalkeeper Teagan Micah is excited about her side’s prospects ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Women’s Super League season.

The Reds enjoyed a stellar campaign last season with boss Matt Beard engineering an impressive fourth-placed finish in the WSL.

Micah was forced to watch on from the sidelines with a nasty concussion injury as her side ascended the league table last term.

And she revealed in an interview with the club’s official website [4 September] that she is ready for the new season and excited by what she has seen from the new signings.

She said: “What I’ve seen so far, the three of them have been quality and they are gelling in quite well, to be fair. We did well last season and the back end of the season was good when we finished in the top four.

“It was a bit frustrating for me on a personal level as I had that ankle injury, so it took me a good 10 weeks to get over that. But I’m feeling really good now and I’m looking forward to what will hopefully be a better season for me.

“I had a tough summer, I trained really hard and I was in the gym every single day, so I’m feeling really good and feeling fit and I can’t wait for the games to start.”

Liverpool Women are ready to compete in the WSL this season

It is always a fantastic sight to see a club back their Women’s side and Fenway Sports Group have certainly done their utmost to help Beard improve on his fourth-placed finish this year.

A club-record transfer fee for forward Olivia Smith, followed by the arrivals of striker Cornelia Kapocs and defender Gemma Smith leaves Liverpool in great shape to mount a challenge to Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal in the WSL.

Smith has been impressive at the U20 World Cup with Canada, the combined 31 goals scored last season between herself and fellow new signing Kapocs will provide Beard with all the firepower he needs to mount a serious challenge to the sides above.

Beard has had to face challenges in the off-season, his pre-season preparations have just started with a behind-closed-doors clash with Birmingham City after a match against Manchester United was called off due to a lack of available personnel.

Micah was among the crop of Liverpool players nursing injury but the goalkeeper is now back to match fitness and ready to compete with Rachel Laws for a place between the sticks for the Reds.
