Liverpool Women will now play Manchester City on October 13 with the match moved for Sky Sports television coverage.

The Reds announced the exciting fixture change on their official website [28 August], with the Women’s Super League clash now set to be broadcast to millions of spectators.

This marks the second Liverpool fixture to be moved to accommodate broadcasters after announcing the kick-off time for the WSL match against Tottenham will be pushed back to be broadcast live on the BBC [liverpoolfc.com, 21 August].

Liverpool Women will have more eyes on them than ever this season

Matt Beard will be under immense pressure to deliver for Liverpool this season with more eyes watching his side than ever.

It is a testament to his fantastic work with the Reds, guiding the side to a fourth-placed finish in the WSL last term.

Since then, the Women’s side have relocated from Prenton Park to the St Helens stadium, increasing their home match capacity by 1,413, the club also announced free travel to supporters to all home and away WSL matches this season.

Fenway Sports Group have sent a statement of intent to the WSL with their backing of Beard’s side and have supplied their manager with the signings of Olivia Smith, Cornelia Kapocs and Gemma Evans to boost their WSL aspirations this season.

The stronghold of Chelsea, Man City, and Arsenal at the summit of the Women’s top-flight will not be easy to topple for the Reds but they are certainly closing the gap on their rivals this summer.

Liverpool supporters will hope that the televised clash against Man City will have implications at the top of the WSL table whereas Beard will be hoping the money from the broadcast will be invested back into his side.

Either way, the announcement is a step in the right direction for Liverpool and the WSL and will surely bring more eyes to the Women’s game and perhaps more Reds supporters.
