Liverpool to lose Stefan Bajcetic after recent Premier League transfer developments – report

Liverpool ace Stefan Bajcetic could be on his way out of the club thanks to Arsenal’s impending signing of Mikel Merino to Real Sociedad, according to HITC.

The outlet reported on 25 August that due to the Gunners agreeing a deal to the Spaniard (BBC Sport, 23 August), Sociedad are currently on the lookout for his replacement.

However, the La Liga side aren’t the only team vying for his transfer as many Premier League clubs also hold an interest in the midfielder.

Arne Slot needs to keep Stefan Bajcetic at Liverpool if nobody is coming in

One of the Reds’ main areas of weakness is their lack of depth in the number six role.

Wataru Endo is the club’s only natural number six and his performances left a lot to be desired come the end of last season.

Liverpool has been consistently linked with talent that could be brought in but nothing has managed to come to fruition.

Martin Zubimendi was the closest that Arne Slot has come [Dave OCKOP, 11 August] to welcoming a defensive midfielder to join but he opted to stay with his boyhood club.

So, should no players be brought in before the 30 August deadline, there’s no reason why Slot should be looking to send Bajcetic out on loan this season.

That is despite Ryan Gravenberch being deployed as a number six since the 2024/25 pre-season.

Indeed, the Spaniard will likely be rusty at first due to the year-long injury he sustained last term but, once he’s back up to speed, there’s no reason why he couldn’t put a shift in over the season.

Only time will tell what the Reds’ squad will look like come 31 August, but, one thing is for sure, reinforcement will likely be needed if Liverpool wish to compete for the title this term.
