Don Goodman backs Liverpool for success after what Arne Slot confidante assured him
Don Goodman has backed Liverpool to be successful this season under new manager Arne Slot.
The Dutchman took charge of his first Premier League match for the Reds on Saturday 17 August against Ipswich Town in a 2-0 victory at Portman Road.
Liverpool have undergone a complete restructure at Anfield this summer, Michael Edwards returned to the club as CEO of football, Richard Hughes replaced Jorg Schmadtke as sporting director and Slot has assembled a brand new coaching team after replacing Jurgen Klopp.
While supporters are growing concerned with the lack of transfer activity at the club, Goodman backs Slot to be a success in England, even if he doesn’t strengthen the squad before the end of the transfer window.
“Arne Slot is inheriting a very strong and talented group of players that, even without any signings, will almost certainly challenge for a Champions League spot,” he exclusively told Liverpool News.
“I’m optimistic for Liverpool in that they’ve chosen the right man in Arne Slot. John de Wolf, a friend of mine, told me 18 months ago about Slot and how good he was, the best coach he’s ever worked with [at Feyenoord].
“He knows what a good coach looks like and I’ve been reassuring my Liverpool-supporting friends that they are in really good hands.“
Liverpool will challenge under Arne Slot this season
Fenway Sports Group had arguably one of the most difficult tasks ahead of them last season: finding the perfect replacement for Klopp.
Xabi Alonso, who was one win away from an undefeated treble-winning season with Bayer Leverkusen, and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim were two names high on the list but, Hughes decided on Slot who was managing Eredivisie side Feyenoord.
He managed to topple the stronghold of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch league, working on a shoestring budget and relying on his coaching skills to develop the players at his disposal.
The jump from the Eredivisie to the Premier League is no easy feat, Erik ten Hag has endured mixed success at Manchester United but Slot, needs to make an immediate impact at Anfield.

Liverpool supporters have been growing increasingly anxious about falling further behind Manchester City and Arsenal and are relying on Slot to bridge the gap at the top of the league.
The new controlled style of play that Slot has implemented thus far has brought a new lease of life to the side, it is similar to the heavy metal style that brought Klopp so much success with a higher emphasis on suffocating the opposition in possession.
Liverpool fans as always, will offer their unwavering support for Slot and the team this season, the comprehensive victory against Ipswich on the opening day, will go a long way in easing the concerns of the fanbase.
