Marc Guehi ‘holds the power’ as Liverpool transfer update emerges at Anfield

Liverpool-linked centre-back Marc Guehi holds the power to decide his future at Crystal Palace, according to Edmund Brack.

The Reds are said to be closely monitoring the England international, with Manchester United also interested in his signature [Daily Mail].

Speaking to The Redmen TV podcast (June 27), the South London Press journalist admitted Guehi has shown no willingness to sign a new contract.

He said: “Now being a starting England centre-back, I think it would be, it’d be crazy not to see offers and bids tabled for Marc Guehi. He only has two years left on his Crystal Palace deal.

“And he holds all of the sort of power per se. He hasn’t got a release clause. If Palace do let him run down his contract, they miss out on a huge sum of money to the football club.

“So Marc Guehi holds the power in that respect. I think he’s been offered a new contract and I don’t think he’s shown any willingness at that point to try and renegotiate and improve his deal.”

Guehi is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024.

Liverpool should move for Marc Guehi

A move for Guehi would excite the Liverpool fan base.

With fan-favourite Joel Matip leaving at the end of his contract, the Reds need to bolster the defensive line.

Jarell Quansah looked capable when called upon but still lacks experience and Ibrahima Konate struggles for fitness.

Virgil Van Dijk is now 32 years old and is entering the twilight years of his career.

Guehi has looked at home in the England defence at Euro 2024 and enjoyed a stellar campaign for Crystal Palace.

As per Sofascore, Guehi has averaged a 7.13 match rating for his three starts for England so far. As The Three Lions prepare to face Slovakia in the round of 16, the expectation will be to continue that form.

Liverpool need to target homegrown talent as they only have four non-homegrown spots left following the imminent departure of Adrian (ABC, 23 June).

There is no better current homegrown centre-back on the market than Guehi.

The Reds should capitalise on the 23-year-old’s rise and secure a centre-back for the present and future.
