Darwin Nunez proved he deserves another chance at Liverpool and was on the goalsheet again for Uruguay at Copa America.

Nunez has been one of the most inconsistent strikers in world football since his move to Liverpool in 2022.

His performances over the past two seasons have yet to justify the £85million fee the Reds paid for him.

The 25-year-old played 36 matches in the Premier League last season and scored 11 goals and provided eight assists.

He could have added a lot more to that tally as he missed 27 big chances.

But despite his club form, Nunez looks a different beast in a Uruguay shirt.

Darwin Nunez needs to replicate Uruguay form for Liverpool

Nunez has continued to split opinion amongst Liverpool fans for the past two seasons - you either love him or hate him.

There is no doubt of his quality when he steps onto the pitch but he needs to turn that quality into goals.

That problem doesn't follow Nunez to the international level, however, as he scored again for Uruguay in a 5-0 win against Bolivia [27 June].

As per Sofascore, that is now two goals in as many games for Nunez at the Copa America so far.

He continues to be a handful, averaging six shots and 2.5 shots on target per game at the tournament.

Nunez will always leave you wanting more as he has missed four big chances in two games. But he is a lot more clinical at international level than he is for Liverpool.

In World Cup qualifying he has five goals and two assists for Uruguay in six starts.

His two goals in the Copa America outperform his 1.57xG.

Compared to his Liverpool form where he massively underperformed his 16.39 xG and clocked a 10 percent goal conversion rate across the season.

For some, the jury is out on Nunez but he needs to find a way to carry his international form to Liverpool.
