Liverpool transfer news as Reds ready £38m+ offer for Atalanta star Ederson

Liverpool are readying an offer to try and secure the signature of Atalanta star Ederson during the summer transfer window, according to CaughtOffside.

The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (9 June) that Arne Slot’s reds are set to offer somewhere between £38.2million and £42.4million in an attempt to convince the Italian club to part ways with the Brazilian.

Atalanta will only be willing to discuss Ederson’s future following the end of the Copa America as they believe a strong tournament could see the 24-year-old’s value increase this summer.

A lot may also hinge on the future of Teun Koopmeiners who could move to Juventus this summer as the Italian club are unwilling to lose two of their biggest starts in the same window. If he does join the Old Lady, it could block Liverpool.

Will Liverpool sign Atalanta star Ederson during the summer transfer window at Anfield?

While Liverpool’s midfield recruits impressed last season with the likes of Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai all having good debut seasons, the Reds could certainly do with another defensive-minded player.

Since Fabinho and Jordan Henderson left Anfield, there has been a lack of a genuine number six in the middle of the park. While that isn’t the end of the world, it is a problem that the signing of Ederson would immediately solve.

Ultimately, it would take an expensive deal to get over the line, but the Reds have seen themselves just how good the Brazilian can be as he was part of the Atalanta side that brushed by them in the Europa League in remarkable fashion.

Hopefully, Liverpool will make the Italian side an offer they can’t refuse even if Koopmeiners does leave as well. If Slot is going to be a success on Merseyside, he needs to be backed in the transfer market just as Jurgen Klopp was previously.
