Arne Slot discusses Santiago Gomez transfer at Liverpool already

Arne Slot has already discussed Santiago Gimenez as a potential Liverpool signing, according to CaughtOffside.

The report on 2 June explains that the Mexican centre-forward has also attracted the attention of fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham.

Additionally, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are thought to hold an interest in Gimenez – though, of the quartet, only Tottenham are expected to make a concrete move for the striker.

Would Santiago Gimenez be a good signing for Liverpool?

Gimenez’s raw numbers from the 2023/24 season make for very encouraging reading.

The 23-year-old scored 23 goals and racked up six assists in just 30 Eredivisie games, as well as scoring twice and notching an assist in only four Champions League outings.

The Mexican’s Eredivisie xG of 23.01 from 109 shots demonstrates that his output is consistent with the chances he has been presented with, while his 233 touches in the opposition penalty area underline his consistent presence in dangerous areas – all the ingredients a recruitment team would look for in a goalscorer [FotMob].

However, Gimenez is not simply a penalty-box poacher. He pulls his weight out of possession as well, winning possession 24 times in the final third in the Eredivisie last season.

That combination of goalscoring consistency and pressing intensity could make him a valuable addition to Liverpool’s front line – particularly given he already has a working relationship with Slot from their time together in Rotterdam.
