Liverpool are set to officially announce Arne Slot as their new manager next week, according to ESPN.

The report on 18 May reveals that plans have been made to unveil the Dutchman as Jurgen Klopp's successor, with the legendary tactician stepping down at the end of the season.

Klopp oversees his final game as Reds manager at Anfield against Wolves on 19 May before passing the baton to Slot, who is joining the club from Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

Liverpool enter a new era under Arne Slot

As gut-wrenching as it will be for Liverpool fans to wave the club's most successful coach of the modern era goodbye, there are positives to look forward to.

Chief among them is the hope that Slot can pick up where his legendary predecessor left off and steer the Reds to more success, building on the foundations laid by Klopp in his eight and a half seasons at the club.

Slot is by no means a glamourous hire, but his record at Feyenoord is encouraging. The 45-year-old delivered the Eredivisie title last season - their first league crown since 2017 - and also won the KNVB Cup this term.

He also led the club to the inaugural Europa Conference League final in his first season but was beaten by Jose Mourinho's Roma.

Liverpool fans will hope he can implement his technical style to good effect at Anfield while getting the best out of compatriots Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.

If silverware continues to flow, it will ease the pain of Klopp's departure somewhat.
