Liverpool to go ‘extra mile’ for Arne Slot as £13m update emerges
Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill says Liverpool are prepared to go the “extra mile” in compensation to make Arne Slot their new manager.
The Dutchman has emerged as the front-runner to replace the departing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout this summer.
Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport (25 April) that it could cost as much as £13million (€15million) in compensation to bring Slot and his backroom team to the club.
Cotterill, speaking to Sky Sports News (25 April), said Liverpool are ready to dig deep into their reserves to make it happen.
“It seems that Liverpool are prepared to go that extra mile in terms of the compensation that the club will want to get him, and the compensation by the way they’ll want for all his backroom staff as well,” he said.
“There was no media shutdown 11 months ago, he was quite happy to talk as he did at the time about his ambitions to go to the Premier League one day and the speculations surrounding him and going to Tottenham.
“This one does look at the moment like it’s on the cards and could happen quite soon. Liverpool it’s reported are in negotiations with Feyenoord about just how much it will cost to get Arne Slot at Anfield.”
Will Liverpool fork out for Feyenoord boss Arne Slot?
Replacing the much-loved Klopp at Anfield feels like a bit of a thankless task for any incoming manager such is the German’s popularity in the red half of Merseyside after a hugely successful period at the club.
But someone has to take on the challenge and it is looking increasingly likely that the man to take on job is going to be Feyenoord boss Slot, who has had plenty of admirers over the past couple of years, especially given they appear to have cooled on the idea of hiring Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim.
Slot has earned plaudits for the job he has done at De Kuip, where he won the Eredivisie title last season and the KNVB Cup this term, while also reaching the Europa Conference League final in 2022.
The question now is, will Liverpool fork out the cash to bring Slot and his support staff to Anfield? All the noises suggest that they will and it appears a matter of when not if he will be named as Klopp’s successor.
