Liverpool make new move for Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace respond
Liverpool are running out of time to seal deals for both Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak this summer.
Guehi is a name Liverpool have been chasing all summer, as they look to strengthen what has been a weak backline so far this summer.
Meanwhile, Isak has become the transfer story of the summer for Liverpool, but the Reds are struggling to get Newcastle United to budge on their stance to this point.
With less than 40 hours remaining of the window, the Reds need to get a move on if they want to get either deal over the line.
A bid has emerged from Liverpool for Guehi, and the Eagles have responded.
Palace want more money for Guehi
Crystal Palace have rejected Liverpool's formal bid for Guehi, worth £35million with a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
The Mail on Sunday's print edition (31 August, pg 86) has reported that Palace have countered the offer to include an extra £5m in add-ons.
The Eagles also wanted to include a loan deal for Joe Gomez as part of the deal, but the Reds have refused so far, with the England defender remaining part of Arne Slot's plans.
Chairman Steve Parish stated after Liverpool's defeat on penalties to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield that Palace may need to sell the England defender, who is in the final year of his contract.
Liverpool have to get one of Isak or Guehi over the line
Overall, Liverpool's window has been a success so far, with an outlay of almost £300m allowing Slot to replenish his squad ahead of his side's title defence.
However, the squad is still incredibly light, following a host of sales aimed at raising the funds for these two blockbuster deals.
Liverpool's sales so far include:

- Jarell Quansah – Bayer Leverkusen
- Ben Doak – Bournemouth
- Caoimhin Kelleher – Brentford
- Trent Alexander-Arnold – Real Madrid
- Tylor Morton – Lyon
- Nat Phillips – West Brom
This has left just four senior forwards available, and with Mohamed Salah set to travel for the African Cup of Nations in the winter, Liverpool desperately need an extra forward.
At the back, Ibrahima Konate looks like a shell of his former self as his contract talks look to have gotten to his head, and Guehi's arrival could help him revive his form through stiff competition.
If Liverpool sign neither Isak nor Guehi, it could cost them the title.
