Liverpool are in the final stages of sealing a deal for Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo, according to Sponichi.

The Japanese outlet reported on 22 July that Kubo is "positive" about the challenge that the Premier League presents.

The report also details that both the transfer fee and salary that the La Liga ace is set to receive will be the biggest in Japanese football history.

Takefusa Kubo would be a stellar transfer for Liverpool this summer

Liverpool are clearly in the market for attackers this summer with the vast majority of rumours surrounding the club coming in the form of wingers.

Although the Reds already have five first-team forwards, it was evident towards the end of last season that the club were lacking some firepower.

Both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz came under fire but thanks to solid Copa America performances from both players, they could be given another chance to prove their worth to Arne Slot.

That is unless Diaz chooses to leave this summer after being repeatedly linked with an Anfield exit [AS, 26 May] this summer.

Kubo has shone in La Liga since exiting Real Madrid during the 2022/23 season and has managed to make a total of 85 appearances across all competitions for Real Sociedad.

During those games the 23-year-old has contributed to 30 goals with almost half of them coming during last season.

Although no fee is mentioned in the report, should Liverpool follow through with their interest, it would be a stellar acquisition.
