Aleksander Isak has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool as he edges closer to leaving Newcastle United.

Isak, 25, was left out of the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of Asia amid ongoing speculation about his future at St James' Park.

It initially looked as though the Sweden international would be staying put in the North-East, leading to Liverpool to focus their attention on signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, Ekitike's move to Anfield sparked discontent on Tyneside, with Isak seemingly unhappy about the Magpies failing to let him join Arne Slot's side.

Isak wages similar to Ekitike's

However, the striker has reportedly reached a "verbal agreement in principle" with Liverpool.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed on Wednesday (30 July) that Isak's ready to sign a six-year contract that runs until 2031.

It is understood that his salary will also be similar to Ekitike's. Plettenberg previously reported that the French striker's Liverpool contract is worth £12.9million a year, which equates to roughly £250,000-a-week.

  • Ekitike officially signed a £250,000-a-week, six-year deal on 23 July.
  • Isak's personal terms look set to be very similar.
  • It's some way short of Liverpool's top earner.

Isak to join top Liverpool earners

Various websites report different figures, but there's no doubt that Mohammed Salah is currently the best-paid player at Anfield after he signed a new two-year deal in April.

It's easy to see why Isak would say yes to Fenway Sports Group's offer, especially as the alleged £250,000-a-week package is worth more than double what he currently earns at Newcastle.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Tynesiders will accept Liverpool's bid for the unhappy Swede.

  • Isak's reportedly earning £120,000-a-week on his existing terms at Newcastle.
  • He still has three years left on that contract.
  • The Magpies signed Isak from Real Sociedad for £60m in 2022.

Going back to Plettenberg's update on Wednesday, he's reported that Isak wants to complete his move to Anfield as soon as possible, with the Premier League season now just over two weeks away from kicking off.

Ekitike cost the Reds an initial £69million when he joined from Frankfurt last week. Although Isak has youth on his side in comparison to Ekitike, his Premier League experience and proven goalscoring record at a top level mean it's likely he'll cost more.
