Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Alexander Isak.

The Anfield outfit saw a £110million bid for the Newcastle striker rejected earlier this month, but they have not walked away.

Isak is seen as the perfect number nine for Arne Slot's side in their title defence, even after Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike.

However, an issue has been raised that Fenway Sports Group may have to deal with if the Swedish star is signed.

Liverpool could have Real Madrid problem with Isak

Liverpool are used to Real Madrid unsettling their players; the Spanish giants did exactly that with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left Merseyside at the end of his contract.

They are also reportedly doing the same with Ibrahima Konate, although it remains to be seen whether that succeeds.

Meanwhile, according to David Ornstein (12 August), Isak has refused to play for Newcastle ever again and has his heart set on a move to the Reds.

McCoist and Agbonlahor were furious as the news broke, with the ex-Rangers star saying: "Have a think about this, if you are Liverpool or Liverpool fans, is that the kind of person you want to be signing?"

Agbonlahor replied: "Real Madrid want him in two years when he is 27, he will do the same to you."

McCoist agreed with his co-host, saying: "Of course he will."

Liverpool will not care about controversy amid Isak latest

If they sign Isak, the Reds will not care about how he acted to seal a Magpies exit. Why would they?

He has every right to want to go and play for the champions and to have the chance to win the highest honours.

The fake outrage from the likes of McCoist and Agbonlahor is simply ridiculous. For starters, nobody knows what has happened behind the scenes, what has and has not been promised to the Sweden ace.

Also, why shouldn't Isak be allowed to move on and better his career?

If he feels that is at Anfield rather than St. James' Park and Slot's side are offering a reasonable fee, then he should be allowed to leave.

The idea that was mooted that he will want to join Madrid is pure speculation; surely if Madrid wanted to sign him, they would be in the race right now, while he is in his prime.

Rather than waiting another two years, when his value could be out of what they can afford.
