Liverpool are in pole position to win the Premier League title already.

Liverpool have won their first three matches, and Arne Slot has been named as the Premier League Manager of the Month for August.

The Reds signed Alexander Isak on deadline day, in a stunning £125million transfer, but his status for the Burnley clash on 14 September is questionable.

Isak may have to wait to make his first Liverpool start, as his fitness levels are not at the usual level after he missed the first weeks of the season.

Alexander Isak is the subject of new Liverpool prediction

The key question is whether Isak can form a connection with Mohamed Salah for Liverpool when the two eventually take to the pitch together.

Former top-flight star Troy Deeney believes that there could be issues, but insists that if the two connect, it will be game over for the rest of the competition.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 12 September, he said: “It will be interesting to see how he and Mo Salah get on, you know, penalty taking, there is that conversation around that.

“Also, Salah likes to cut and shoot first; he is not necessarily assist-first. In his thought process, I wonder how they will get on.

“If those two can connect, oh my god, Liverpool have more or less wrapped up the title.”

Mohamed Salah will be excited to work with Alexander Isak

Deeney's claim that Salah is not assist-focused is wrong; he often tries to pick out teammates, rather than attempting a shot.

That is not necessarily reflected in his assist numbers, as he often had his colleagues missing chances that he had put on a plate for them.

  • Salah has notched 114 assists in 405 matches for the Reds
  • He bagged 18 in the league last season, just two off Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne's record tally of 20 in a single season
  • Created 89 chances for his teammates in the league last time out

If the likes of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo were more clinical, then Salah would have probably broken the assist record last season, but he finished on 18 for the league campaign instead.

Now, with Isak leading the line, there is a chance for Salah to vastly inflate his assist tally, as the Swede is one of the most deadly finishers in the world.

There is every chance that the duo will connect as Deeney fears, and that will be a major problem for the rest of the league.
