Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez struggles to show his value in disappointing Uruguay outing

Liverpool star Darwin Nunez suffered an off-night for Uruguay in their 1-0 win over the United States [2 July].

Nunez has been in stellar form at the Copa America scoring two goals in three matches.

The 25-year-old failed to make an impact in the 89 minutes he was on the pitch at the Arrowhead Stadium.

Mathias Olivera scored the only goal of the game, which saw the hosts knocked out of Copa America.

Nunez is arguably one of the biggest hit or miss strikers in world football in a Liverpool shirt.

For Uruguay it is a different story.

Before the USA match, he scored in seven consecutive games for his country equalling a 100-plus year record set by Hector Scarone [Liverpoolfc.com, 1 July].

His performance last night was similar to those he endured for the Reds last season, though.

As per Sofascore, he managed 0.10xG with one off-target shot before ex-Red Luis Suarez replaced him in the 89 minute.

He created one key pass that created one big chance when he played a quick free-kick to Nahitan Nandez, who saw his effort spurned by Matt Turner.

It was a night to forget for Nunez as he lost possession 10 times and recorded only 22 touches throughout the match.

Nunez ended the night with a 6.7 match rating.

His Uruguay performances will no doubt be of interest to new Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

One of Slot's biggest tasks is to get Nunez firing in the Premier League like he does for his country.

The Liverpool number nine will need to be on form when Uruguay competes in the quarter final.
