Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens could cost Liverpool up to £70million, Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard has told Liverpool News.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the England youth international, with Dortmund bracing themselves for a possible exit (Fabrizio Romano, 7 January).

The renowned Italian journalist revealed on 20 January that the Merseysiders have sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old sensation several times this season.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, Sky Sports Bundesliga commentator Hatchard said: "He would cost a lot - he is on a long contract with no reported release clause, and Dortmund knows he is becoming their most saleable asset.

"It's really difficult to know because Dortmund have not put a figure in the deal. Maybe £60million-70m?

"I’m sure Liverpool would tempt him, not least because they’ll definitely be in the Champions League but Gakpo and Diaz already play in his position, so that’s an issue.

"I think it’s too early for him. It’s his breakout season, he’s still inconsistent and he’s only 20. Talented, yes, but a long way to go."

Liverpool ready to seal Gittens transfer?

The German side signed Gittens from Manchester City's academy in 2020 and he previously spent time in the Chelsea set-up too.

The England Under-21 international has enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Bundesliga outfit, scoring 11 goals and notching five assists in 26 matches in all competitions.

Gittens has been linked with a move to Anfield.
Gittens has been linked with a move to Anfield.

That has led to speculation linking him with a move to Anfield and Chelsea are also said to be interested in securing his services but his contract at Dortmund expires in 2028.

Therefore, any potential move for the young star will cost a significant amount.
