Liverpool 'in last-ditch effort' to keep Alexander-Arnold as contract details shared
Trent Alexander-Arnold is now set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The Liverpool academy graduate has been part of the first team since he made his debut in 2016.
Since then, he has helped Liverpool win numerous trophies, including the Premier League and the Champions League.
There was hope that the full-back would stay at Anfield after both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk signed new contracts last month.
However, it has now become apparent that the England international rejected lucrative terms from the Reds in favour of leaving the club this summer.
Alexander-Arnold rejects opportunity to become best paid full-back in Premier League
Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool will no doubt be controversial. The full-back will be one of the highest-profile players leaving the club in years, yet the Reds will not receive anything for his eventual transfer.
It does seem likely that Alexnader-Arnold will move to Real Madrid this summer, which will be a massive blow for Arne Slot, and will eventually strengthen their Champions League rivals.
However, Liverpool’s chiefs did plenty to try to sway the 26-year-old to stay at the club.
Trent Alexander-Arnold's honours at Liverpool

European Super Cup x1
Club World Cup x1
FA Cup x1

It has now been reported that Alexander-Arnold rejected the chance to become one of the best paid full-backs in the world to favour of leaving.
Presenter Rob Wotton said on Sky Sports News (5 May, 10:27am): "The club are satisfied they did everything in their power to convince him to stay.
“Discussions were cordial and constructive, but it became apparent a new agreement was not attainable despite an offer that would have made Trent the best-paid full-back in the Premier League and one of the best-paid full-backs in the world.
“The final meeting between Richard Hughes and the player's representatives took place earlier this spring."
Liverpool must quickly move on from Alexander-Arnold
While he will no doubt be a big loss for Liverpool, the Reds must quickly move on from Alexander-Arnold.
Thankfully, the saga has now ended and every party knows where they stand as they see out of the final games of the Premier League season.
A quick replacement is a must for Slot, with the full-back position now one of the most important on the pitch.
Conor Bradley may be seen as a like-for-like replacement, but realistically another world-class right-back is needed.
