Liverpool have confirmed via their official website that Calvin Ramsay will join Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

This will be the third time that the former Aberdeen man will have been shipped out on loan with his two prior spells coming with both Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End last season.

The once-capped Scotland international will spend the entirety of the season with the League One outfit and will look to have a similar impact to the one which Conor Bradley had whilst on loan with Bolton during the 2022/23 term.

Why the move to Wigan Athletic will be beneficial to Calvin Ramsay

Ramsay was signed in the summer of 2022 as the next big thing to come from Scotland.

His transfer to Liverpool was reported to be a club-record sale for the Scottish team despite Ramsay being just 18 years old.

The youngster was setting the Scottish Premiership alight with the defender even being shortlisted for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Award.

Despite having all this hype in the early stages of his career, due to things such as injuries and the sudden emergence of Conor Bradley, the right-back is yet to be given a regular place in Liverpool's first team.

Despite the youngster not being afforded the chance to feature regularly under Jurgen Klopp, he still has many years ahead of him and this move to Wigan can only help advance his progress.

Originally, it was thought that the youngster was brought in to be Liverpool's number two in the role of right-back.

However, thus far it hasn't meant to be but with a full season of first-team football under his belt, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him enter into Slot's plans for the 2025/26 campaign.
