Gary Lineker slams 'extraordinary' Andy Robertson decision in Liverpool v Fulham
Gary Lineker has slammed the Andy Robertson red card decision after Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Fulham.
The Scot has struggled at times this season and was sent off in the 17th minute with the Reds already 1-0 down at Anfield on Saturday (14 December).
Arne Slot’s side would come from behind twice to secure a draw despite being reduced to ten men in the early stages of the contest with Diogo Jota impressing on his return from injury.
However, Lineker did not agree with the dismissal [Match of the Day, 22:44], saying: “I found it an extraordinary decision.
“They eventually give it because they think Wilson is going to get the ball, there’s zero chance that Harry Wilson is going to get on the end of that.
“You see how hard he hits it, he’s never going to get across there.”
Liverpool have a left back problem
The Reds have a problem at left-back for the EFL Cup clash with Southampton on Wednesday (18 December).
Robertson will serve his suspension against the Saints as a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity is only a one-match ban and carries across to other domestic competitions.
He would have likely been rested for the cup tie anyway but with Kostas Tsimikas still out injured, Slot will have a selection dilemma.
The Dutchman could turn to Joe Gomez to play on the left, he was a reliable option last season for Jurgen Klopp but Slot has been reluctant to do that.
He could also call on James Norris from the academy, who was named on the substitutes bench against Girona in the Champions League last week.
The long-term future at the position might see the Reds dip into the transfer window, with Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez linked with a move to Anfield.
