Crystal Palace have just been handed a trump card in their negotiations with Liverpool over Marc Guehi.

Arne Slot's side recorded a statement 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon to make it three wins from three in the Premier League.

Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stunning free-kick for Liverpool, reminiscent of those struck by Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the Reds were dealt a blow during the clash that could have serious ramifications for their pursuit of Palace captain Guehi.

Ibrahima Konate's injury to affect Liverpool's pursuit of Marc Guehi

Konate endured a difficult evening against Newcastle United last week, looking lost alongside the ever-consistent Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Guehi for some time, having entered the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Liverpool have already had a £35million bid rejected for Guehi, with the Eagles holding out for more money.

Indeed, the South London club may now get what they want after Konate was taken off injured against Arsenal, just as he looked back to his best.

  • Konate has under a year left on his contract
  • He has made 136 appearances for the Merseyside outfit
  • Liverpool have signed a new centre-back in Giovanni Leoni

Gary Neville was on Sky Sports commentary duties on 31 August and commented on what impact the blow could have on the Reds' pursuit of the centre-back.

He said: "Crystal Palace may look at that injury to Konate and think they can get a few extra quid.

"The bid is £35m, and I know he's only got a year left on his contract, but it does feel a little bit skinny."

Marc Guehi is worth the extra outlay for Liverpool

The centre-back position has been a slight area of concern at the start of the season for the Premier League champions.

Liverpool conceded five goals in their first two top-flight games, with Konate coming under scrutiny.

As for Guehi, he has continued his exemplary form for the Eagles and has performed admirably despite being linked with a move to Anfield.

Guehi started for the Eagles at Aston Villa on Sunday evening, so it would have to be a quick turnaround to get a deal over the line before 7pm on Monday.

Indeed, Neville is right that £35m seems skinny for the England international, and the Eagles would feel robbed if that were to come to fruition.
