Liverpool have been on the beach in recent weeks after they secured their second Premier League title.

The Reds have nothing to play for since the league was secured in April, and have instead been focusing on the upcoming transfer window.

However, their winless end to the campaign has now set a new woeful record in a Premier League first.

Liverpool’s failure to win their first three games after claiming the Premier League title sets new record

Arne Slot’s side lost to Brighton 3-2 to make it two defeats out of three on Monday.

It now means that the maximum amount of points that Liverpool can earn before the end of the season is 86, the lowest a title-winning side has earned since Manchester City in the 2020/21 campaign.

Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace is the last chance the Merseyside club have of ending their winless streak, and ensuring the season ends on a high.

However, all three points at Anfield this weekend cannot whip away one terrible record Liverpool have now set.

According to OneFootball (21 May), the Reds have become the first side in Premier League history to not win their first three top-flight games after winning the title.

The Premier League champions' final points total in the last five seasons
2020/21 - Manchester City86
2021/22 - Manchester City93
2022/23 - Manchester City89
2023/24 - Manchester City91
2024/25 - Liverpool 83*

Liverpool should have fun against Crystal Palace

Against Palace, it is unlikely that Liverpool will be focused on the three points.

With both sides celebrating a fantastic season that has resulted in silverware, it will be like a party at Anfield.

Therefore, Liverpool should have fun against Palace and not bust a gut to try and end the winless run.

While a victory would be great, few in the stands will be upset if the Merseyside club does not win.

The players instead should just take advantage of their relaxed setting and soak in the atmosphere that they have earned.
